Wiresoft and Pogo Linux Team up to Provide Affordable Linux Server Networking For Small to Medium Businesses
Wiresoft's Firegate® SMB Solution and ANA self-managing system will now be bundled into the Pogo Linux Businessware Server, providing the power and stability of the Linux operating system in a reliable and expandable server
Kirkland, Washington - January 14, 2003 - Wiresoft Net, Inc. and Pogo Linux, Inc. announced the release of the Businessware Server, reflecting their mutual goal of developing affordable technologies for a broad range of Small and Medium Businesses (SMB). The IT capabilities sought by most SMBs are now available in a single server with a pre-installed GUI-driven Linux Operating System.
"The cost of providing core IT needs (e.g., email, web hosting, security, and data back-up) is a huge financial burden on many companies. Initial hardware costs, coupled with vendor licensing programs, create a great strain on operating budgets. With IT costs spiraling out of control, many companies have been searching for a cost effective means of obtaining the functionality necessary to operate in today's market," stated Don Britton, Wiresoft Executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales.
"Up to now, options have been limited. Businesses were frequently forced to choose between compromising the functionality they could get or suffering exorbitant costs. This strategic alliance between Wiresoft and Pogo Linux will provide a lower cost alternative that not only matches, but exceeds the functionality of comparable products," according to Klein.
The FiregateŽ Linux Operating System in the Businessware Server provides a firewall with state-of-the-art network security and VPN capabilities, unlimited email accounts, automated data back-up, and website hosting - all for a price that is less than what other vendors charge in email licensing fees alone. In addition, the easy to use GUI-based operation of the system makes it possible for anyone with basic networking skills to operate the Businessware Server with a minimal amount of time, further reducing IT costs.
Additional cost savings are achieved through Wiresoft's Automated Network Agent (ANA), which performs many of the common network maintenance tasks without burdening IT staff. The basic ANA package, included free of charge with every Pogo Linux Businessware Server, automatically provides all future upgrades to the FiregateŽ SMB Solution and access to free add-on modules that bring additional functionality. For an annual support subscription fee, ANA also delivers system optimization, intrusion detection, system monitoring, data storage and recovery, and administrator alerting services.
Free modules for the FiregateŽ SMB Solution include tools for analyzing website traffic (Webalizer), a powerful cross-platform compatible database (MySQL) that is an excellent alternative to proprietary offerings such as Oracle or IBM, a website and intranet search engine (ht://Dig), a scheduling and project management tool (TUTOS), email auto reply, and adapters to establish VPN connections with Microsoft Windows clients. All of these modules can be installed using Wiresoft's ANA technology, which would require minimal amounts of IT staff time.
The Pogo Linux WebWare line of servers provides the hardware foundation for the new Businessware Server. The WebWare servers have demonstrated exceptional value and are particularly well suited for situations in which budget and space are important, such as data centers or small network environments. The Pogo Linux Businessware Server has the convenience of an integrated LCD control panel and can be stacked with optional brackets. Backed by a P4 processor, DDR Memory and up to two hard disks, the Pogo Linux Businessware server proves that good things can come in small packages.
"The standard features of the Businessware Server provide a high performance, reliable platform that complements the Wiresoft FiregateŽ SMB Solution software capabilities. Together, they provide comprehensive networking capabilities at a very affordable initial price. In addition, the reliability and expandability built into the design of both the hardware and software will continue to support companies as they grow and result in a very low total cost of ownership," stated Tim Lee, President, and founder of Pogo Linux.
"The bottom line is that using the Pogo Linux Businessware Server will allow businesses to get the network capabilities they need at a significantly lower cost," concluded Lee.
Pogo Linux and Wiresoft will be demonstrating the Businessware Server at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo being held January 22-24 at the Javits Convention Center in New York, NY. The companies will be located in booth R12.
