LAN1: Connect LAN1 (LAN) to your network hub. If you are connected directly to your computer you will need a crossover cable.
LAN2: Connect the LAN2 (WAN) to your DSL or Cable modem.
LAN3: LAN3 is used as an optional fail over (WAN) port.
Choosing your installation mode - Sentry is the gateway to the Internet and
provides communications between clients on the private network and servers on the Internet.
In bridging mode, Sentry behaves like a two port Ethernet switch, allowing all network data to transparently pass through it. It continues to scan and block viruses for common Internet communications.
The recommended Sentry placement is on internal network, between the network firewall and the network hub. The gateway IP for the public interface should point to the private network address of the network firewall/gateway.
If you have a second broadband connection to your premises, you can configure Sentry to use the second broadband connection as the backup connection in the event that the primary connection fails.
After completing your initial install, verify that you have access to the Internet. You must be going through the Firegate Sentry appliance to complete the registration. Sentry will not check for new virus-signature updates until the registration process is completed successfully.
